Shannon’s Bio
Shannon’s love for self-reliance and her respect for Mother Earth began as a child in the Gaspereau Valley in Nova Scotia. Shannon spent much of her youth working on local farms and learning simple homesteading skills from her Grandparents; giving her
invaluable experiences from which she continues to draw upon today. Even though Shannon is no longer an independent farmer; she remains an advocate for sustainable farming practices. She is involved with local and organic food initiatives to promote local products as a means to increase rural economy and strengthen local communities. She believes very strongly in the importance of backyard gardens as a means to increase food security in local regions. Shannon has been leading workshops in family gardening, composting, food storage and basic seed saving since 2007.
Several years ago Shannon took an extended winter adventure to Yukon Territory; and was bitten by the northern bug who’s side effects include falling in love with the cold dry northern winters, breathtaking scenery and the activities that go along with that. As an attempt to recreate the northern fever in the east Shannon has become very passionate about dog sledding and has taken her dedication to local mid-distance races with the hopes of running long-distance in the future.
