NORTHWOODS SURVIVAL offers the workshops listed below:
WILDERNESS SURVIVAL – Learn practical basic, intermediate and advanced wilderness survival techniques.
KNIFE CRAFT - Learn what is really required when choosing a knife and then learn how to care for and use it.
AXE CRAFT - Learn about the proper use, care and feeding of an axe.
FIRE MAKING TECHNIQUES AND APPLICATIONS - Learn the basic science and more importantly the practical skills to start, maintain and enjoy a fire.
BUSH KNOTS. Learn some basic knots and their uses.
SHELTERS - Learn the How, When, Where and Whys of constructing a survival shelter. Or, just learn how to spend an enjoyable night without a tent.
INTRODUCTION TO BUSHCRAFT - Learn how to do, make, and build what you need in the bush using what nature provides.
HIDE TANNING - Learn to turn raw deer hides into braintanned buckskin using traditional techniques and no chemicals.
SURVIVAL KITS - Learn what works and what doesn't and then put them to use.
FLY FISHING AND CASTING - Learn what equipment you really need to get out and enjoy a day on the river.
CANOE POLING - Learn the skills required to safely manoeuvre a canoe down a river using the time tested art of poling.
DOG SLEDDING - Learn proper dog care and the basics of mushing a dog team in New Brunswick's beautiful north woods.
WOMEN'S WILDERNESS WEEKEND - Shannon hosts a fun weekend of bushcraft, great food and relaxation. Bring old friends and make new ones, too!
We also often invite guides and instructors from other outfitting companies and outdoor schools to NWS to give workshops. These workshops we list as SPECIAL EVENTS on our main page.
Workshop Details
Timing and Meals
Single day workshops are conducted between 0800 and 1600.
Multiple day workshops are conducted between 0800 and 1600. However, we usually do some stargazing and sit by a fire in the evening to discuss the day and answer questions.
We provide lunch during the single day workshops.
During our multiple day workshops breakfast, lunch and supper meals are provided. Multiple day workshops will have on-site overnight accommodation options. (additional fees may apply)
**Our meals consist of locally produced and organically grown ingredients**
If you have allergies or special dietary requirements please notify us in advance and we will do our best to accommodate your needs. However, in the event that we are unable to do so, please be prepared to provide your own meals.
How To Find Us
We are located approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes north of the capital city of Fredericton, New Brunswick, and the Greater Fredericton Airport (with flights from around North America and Europe). We are 1 hour driving time from the Maine/New Brunswick border crossing at Houlton, ME. Please contact us for more specific detailed driving instructions.
Registration
To book a workshop for yourself or your group, contact us for available dates and information. We have a 2-person minimum and an 12 person maximum for all workshops. An adult must accompany children under the age of 16.
10 day pre-registration and a non-refundable deposit of 25% of the course fee is required for each workshop/event per participant.

Rates
A daily rate of $110.00 (Canadian funds) per person, based on a 2-person minimum enrollment, for all workshops.
Liability
Because of the nature of the training that we provide and the environment in which we provide it, there is a small but real chance of injury. Therefore, before the start of each course all participants are required to sign an Acknowledgement of Risk form.
A reasonable level of physical fitness by our customers is also required and assumed.
Remember that we are providing practical wilderness skills training in a wilderness environment. To remove all risk would be to remove the wilderness experience.
