Jeff's Bio

Jeff's love of the outdoors began as a youngster growing up in the foothills of Southern Alberta. During his youth his spare time was spent hunting and trapping the mountains and bush around his hometown of High River, and fly-fishing its rivers and streams. Jeff joined the Canadian army in 1985 as a member of Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. He was a member of Canada's Special Service Force and was employed as a paratrooper in 2 Airborne Commando. He retired from the Armed Forces at the rank of Warrant Officer in 2005 after completing his employment as the Subject Matter Expert for dismounted platoon operations at the School of Infantry in Gagetown, New Brunswick.

Jeff possesses a wealth of bushcraft and wilderness survival knowledge and skills. After more than 3 decades in the bush in one form or another Jeff's belief is that the wilderness is not there to be conquered, and if you take that attitude with you into the bush you are on a collision course with disaster. "The overly gung-ho types are usually the ones that get themselves into trouble."

He can often be heard telling his students: "The most important wilderness skill is knowing yourself and knowing when to stop reacting to a situation and start acting. Your best piece of survival equipment is kept between your ears."
